Now one of the world’s Top Ten golf destinations and with an ever-increasing number of quality courses, Mauritius is an ideal choice:

Golf in Mauritius has come a long way since the Royal Navy founded the first club on the island in 1902. While the Mauritius Gymkhana Club is still going strong and is open to visitors, it does not offer the same modern facilities as other courses that have sprung up around the island.

One&Only Le Saint Geran Mauritius Golf

One of the newest is the Ernie Els-designed championship course at the Four Seasons Golf Club Mauritius at Anahita, a 7,580-yard, 18-hole, par-72 championship course with large fairways and five sets of tees. Six stunning oceanfront holes culminate in a final shot that is among the most spectacular in the world. Built to USGA standards, it is the first of its kind in Mauritius. Carefully woven into the tropical sanctuary, the course is set against lush mountains and fringed by the vast crystal-clear lagoon.

The Ile aux Cerfs Golf Course, designed by Bernhard Langer, is built on an island one kilometre offshore from the resort of Le Touessrok, at Trou d’Eau Douce on the east coast. This island golfing haven has been ranked tenth in the top 100 golf courses in the world by Golf World Magazine and features sea views from all 18 holes as well as a spectacular 16th hole which plays the 600 metre length of the island’s white sand beach. There are no green fees for Le Touessrok guests but other golfers pay 157 Euros, which includes the boat shuttle fee.

Two championship golf courses at Belle Mare Plage are owned by the Constance hotel group with the 18-hole Legend course available exclusively and free of charge to guests of the group’s Belle Mare Plage and Le Prince Maurice resorts. While the Legend covers parkland with many water hazards and flat greens, the Links is more of a roller coaster course with wide rolling fairways and undulating greens. The Links course is also free to guests staying at the Belle Mare Plage and Le Prince Maurice and to other visitors with green fees costing 100 Euros.

Another of the newer courses is Golf du Château, an international 18-hole par-72 course at Bel Ombre, shared by Heritage Golf & Spa Resort and Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort whose guests play free. Situated between the mountains and the sea in an undulating landscape interspersed with lakes, streams and tropical trees, the championship course which is both technically challenging and varied, provides golfers with unique possibilities for a game with exceptional moments and memories.

There are nine-hole courses at the Maritim Hotel, Le Coco Beach Hotel, One&Only Le Saint Géran and Trou aux Biches, while the Shandrani has a nine-hole pitch and putt course.

At the One&Only Le Saint Géran the lush Gary Player 9-hole, par-33 course, complete with its own clubhouse and One&Only Golf Academy, offers complimentary green fees for guests. Instruction for players of any level is available at the One&Only Golf Academy, from intensive training with video analysis, to fine-tuning game play on the practice range followed by 9 holes with the pro, to a fun day on the greens with the whole family.
